While this is all wild speculation I think it is a very well possible. Marvel has recently seen the light as far as doing some course correction as far as lack of women and people of color. How ever there still isn’t a Black women led film.
In the current run of the comics (spoiler alert) Jane Foster has taken the mantle of Thor. Jane is played by Natalie Portman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However Portman has exited the franchise.
Tessa Thompson has been cast in the role of Valkyrie in Thor Ragnarok. I’d imagine this is the last Thor film. Steve Rodgers seemed to put the shield down at the end of Civil War. We haven’t seen a fourth Iron Man film. I’m willing to bet we will see new people pick up the mantle going forward.
So with all of this being said this being said Ragnarok could leave the door open for a solo Valkyrie film and taking the reigns as the lead Asgardian on the Avengers as well.
Why am I writing about Anaconda almost 20 years after its release? In hindsight this movie was incredibly progressive, especially for a 1990s film. In the wake of disasters like Suicide Squad and Matt Damon’s The Great Wall it wall is refreshing to see people of color portrayed well.
Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez receive top billing. We learn early on in the film that they are friends from college and they both graduated. Of course we all know that is a common trope that people of color never last until the end of a horror film. Which as well all know would never happen. Due to system racism people of color have a heightened sense of danger, as every day normal situations are more dangerous for us. Both Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez are the only survivors in the film and they aren’t love interests. Hollywood needs more Anacondas.
This episode of #AllPodcastsMatter we discuss Suicide Squad. We usually have similar opinions on films, but not this time. Were you a fan of Instagram Joker? Should Harley have had pants on? Thanks for listening.
